The partners, Emil Wanatka and Jerry Pope met in 1992 where they were each volunteering with the Adaptive Sports Association, an organization that teaches people with physical and mental disabilities to ski. Conversations on the ski hill led to the realization that they were not only both in the business of building homes, but shared many of the same values and philosophies about construction, and life in general. Recognizing the benefits of partnering, they completed their first project together in 1995, and have been working as a team ever since..

The benefit of this partnership to the customer is that while Emil and Jerry share the same vision for the company, each possesses unique skill sets, experience, and areas of expertise. This is essentially like getting two builders for the price of one. With extensive experience in excavation, field supervision, and project management, Jerry focuses on managing the project sites, scheduling, and overseeing the numerous trades and suppliers involved in the construction process. This direct supervision ensures that our projects stay on schedule, are built to the appropriate specifications, that attention is paid to detail, and the work place is kept clean and safe. It is a well-known fact within the local construction industry and community of Durango, that there is no one who can get things done as quickly or effectively as Jerry can.

The art and science of building a home today is more complicated and challenging than ever before. Technology has advanced electric and mechanical systems making them more sophisticated, the number of products to build and finish homes has proliferated, building sites are becoming more challenging, and evolving green building practices are becoming mainstream within the industry.  Meanwhile, land use and building codes have become increasingly more restrictive, costly, and complex. With his past business experience and passion for the industry, Emil works to manage the office and staff, facilitate projects through the entitlement and permitting process, work with design professionals and keep our clients informed of the progress of their project. As past president of the Homebuilders Association of Southwest Colorado, and current president of the Colorado Association of Homebuilders, Emil is committed to advancing the integrity and professionalism of the industry.
